NB Although Settler Lists and subsequent records in South Africa show the name as CYRUS, all records found in London show the spelling as SYRUS

 

Hertfordshire Archives and Local Studies

 

William SYRUS and Victorina WILDE, both of this parish, were married by licence on 5 March 1766 in St.Nicholas, Hinxworth, Hertfordshire

Both made their mark

Witnesses: John SALE and Thos. COULSON

 

Samuel son of William and Victorina SYRUS was baptised July 28th 1782 in St.Nicholas, Hinxworth, Hertfordshire

Samuel SYRUS and Deborah CLARIDGE were married by banns on 10 October 1809 in St.Mary, Islington

George son of Samuel and Deborah SYRUS of the parish of St.Luke's Old Street born Nov 14th and baptised Dec 16th 1810

 

RG4/4339: Baptisms in Wesleyan Chapel, Hinde Street, Manchester Square, Marylebone

Jemima daughter of Samuel and Deborah SYRUS was born on the 19th day of January 1813 in the parish of St.Luke's in the County of Middlesex, registered this 16th day of April 1814 [sic]

Samuel son of Samuel and Deborah SYRUS was born on the 6th day of February 1815 in the parish of St.Mary le Bone in the County of Middlesex, registered this 16th day of April 1814 [sic]

[These two baptisms were almost certainly registered together on 16th April 1815]

William son of Samuel and Deborah SYRUS was born on the 1st day of December 1816 in the parish of St.Mary le Bone in the County of Middlesex, registered this 19th day of January 1817
