Death Notice (Cape Archives) says his father was William OWEN and suggests a date of birth ca 1774. 

[NB the father of Thomas and William Samuel OWEN was William, not the Rev.John OWEN of Fulham as suggested in The Settler Handbook. The letter by John OWEN says his son was 18 and living in Bremen]

 

Freedom of the City of London Admission Registers (held at London Metropolitan Archives)

William Samuel OWEN, son of William OWEN, Citizen and Butcher of London, came before the Chamberlain the day and year aforesaid and desired to be admitted into theFreedom of this City by Patrimony, and was born after the admission of his Father to the said Freedom. Year of birth 1774.

William Samuel OWEN of the parish of St.Mary Abchurch, London, bachelor, married Judy Ann SPENCER, spinster by Licence on 28 December 1803 in St.George's, Hanover Square.

Both signed their names.

Marriage licence dated 26 December 1803 lists wife's name as Judiana, and this is the spelling on NAAIRS for her will, dated 1870. Death Notice (Cape Archives) for Judiana lists her parents as James and Mary SPENCER, who were the witesses at her wedding.

Judy Ann d. of James and Mary SPENCER baptised 4 July 1779 in St.George's, Hanover Square (born 9 May)

[Judy Ann's sister Elizabeth was baptised in St.George's in 1784. She later married Thomas OWEN, brother of William Samuel]

 

James SPENCER of this parish and Mary NEWPORT of the parish of Paddington, a minor, were married by Licence with the consent of John NEWPORT, the natural and lawful father of the said minor, on 17th October 1775 in St.George's, Hanover Square.
