My Lord
Having been placed on Half Pay in February 1817 (after ten years service on full Pay) with a wife and four children and not being able to procure any Situation to assist me in maintaining them in a comfortable way; and having served in His Majesty's Colonies in North America, am anxious to procure a situation under His Majesty's Government in the new Colony about to be established at the Cape of Good Hope. Should your Lordship have a situation vacant in the above Colony, however small the salary, I should feel for ever indebted to your Lordship for the appointment which would enable me to bring up my Family in a Reputable way, having been very much distressed [when] I was placed on half pay, as I had my Military Pension taken away at the same time. I have the honour to be, my Lord
Your Lordship's most obedt & very humble servant
Thomas MOSES, Capt
Half Pay 7th [Rl] Fusiliers
