Hoop and Grapes, Aldgate

Hoop and Grapes, Aldgate, said to be the oldest surviving pub in London. The present building dates from the early 17th century and survived the Great Fire of London in 1666. William BARRETT, William BOND, William DENHAM, William LEE, Samuel John MOLLETT, Robert PIRIE, Francis STANLEY and William Henry SURMON all lived in the parish of Aldgate at some point and may well have had a drink in the Hoop and Grapes.
