BIRTH March 25 1853, at King William’s Town in British Kaffraria, the lady of Major BISSET CMR, Major of Brigade, of a son.
BIRTH at Whittlesea, the 25th inst, the wife of R. JEFFERSON of a daughter.
MARRIED at Ebenezer, District of Uitenhage, on the 18th March 1853, by the Rev John Smith, Wesleyan Minister, Mr. Richard PARKES, eldest son of Thomas PARKES Esq of Wheatlands, Division of Graaff-Reinet, to Sarah Carey, youngest daughter of W.C. HOBSON Esq JP of Ebenezer, Division of Uitenhage.
DIED at the Kowie on the 19th March, Mr. Richard NICHOLAS of Penryn, Cornwall, at the age of 69 years and 7 months, leaving a widow and eight children to mourn his loss.

DIED on the 22nd inst, Mr. John MANDY, aged 39 years.

His Excellency the Governor and High Commissioner is pleased to direct the publication of the following List of Persons whose applications have received the favourable recommendation of the Victoria Land Commission for farms in the country forfeited by rebellious Tambookie Kaffirs. All persons herein concerned are invited to make immediate application to the Commission at Queen’s Town with a view to being located on the farms allotted to them without delay.

DIED at Cradock on the afternoon of Sunday the 17th inst, Mrs. Mary WHITEHEAD, aged 65 years, relict of the late Mr. George WHITEHEAD, leaving a numerous family to mourn the loss of a most affectionate and indulgent parent. Deceased was a Settler of 1820, having arrived in this Colony as one of HURST’s Party. Requiescat in Pace.

DIED in Graham’s Town on Tuesday morning the 10th instant, Mr. Henry HILL of “Providence” near Salem. Aged 39 years. Leaving a wife and eight children to lament the loss of a kind and affectionate parent and husband. His end was peace.

DIED in Graham’s Town of Consumption on the 21st instant, Sophia, fourth daughter of the late Andrew Christopher [illegible], aged 24 years.
DIED at Port Elizabeth on the 9th inst, Cecilia Louisa, beloved wife of Mr. F. HUGHES Sen, aged 46 years, leaving a husband and six children to mourn her loss.

DIED on the 1st instant, Alison Lockhart, the second daughter of John Lochart JAFFRAY and Catharine Sims BENETT. Aged 8 years and 6 months.
DIED at Fort Beaufort on the 29th May, Maria THORNTON, aged 52 years, much regretted by her friends and all who knew her. She has left a family of four to deplore her loss. Her end was peace.

MARRIED at the Wittebergen Mission Station on the 24th May 1853 by the Rev J.P. Bertram, Wesleyan Missionary, Mr. R.W.H. GIDDY, of Smithfield, eldest son of the Rev R. GIDDY, Wesleyan Missionary, Platburg, Orange River Sovereignty, to Ann Jeans, second daughter of the Rev W SHEPSTONE, Wesleyan Missionary, Kamastone, North Victoria, Colony of the Cape of Good Hope.
DIED at Fort Brown on the 1st June, after a short illness, deeply deplored by her husband and children, Elizabeth, wife of Richard WEBB Sen of Fort Brown. Aged 56 years and 5 months.
DIED at Aliwal North on the 28th May 1853, Sarah Margaret, aged 4 years and 6 months, the beloved child of Mr. George F. STEPHENSON.
DIED on the 6th instant at King William’s Town, British Kaffraria, W.M.D. FYNN Esq JP, aged 47 years, leaving a widow and five children to deplore the loss of a kind husband and affectionate father. Deceased was for 20 years in the service of Government, chiefly as diplomatic agent in Chief Kreli’s country. At the commencement of the late war, Colonel EYRE rescued Mr. FYNN and family together with the Mission and Traders residing at or near Butterworth; all the property of the Europeans was of course sacrificed, thankful to have escaped with their lives.
DIED on the 5th instant at Hertebecs Fontein, Winterberg, of Croup, Amelia Alice, aged 1 year and 9 months, youngest daughter of Lawrence and Rosa Amelia MULLIGAN. Friends at a distance will accept this notice.

MARRIED at King William’s Town, British Kaffraria, on Wednesday the 8th June by the Rev F. Fleming, Mr. Saul SOLOMONS, youngest son of E. SOLOMONS Esq, Solomons Row, Surrey, to Esther NORDEN, eldest daughter of Mark NORDEN Esq, late of Graham’s Town.
MARRIED at Somerset by the Rev Mr Pears, Dutch Pastor, on the 20th ult, Robert H.W. FRY, eldest son of the Rev John FRY, Coleford, Gloucestershire, to Margaret Ann, eldest daughter of Mr. Frank KEEVY, son of one of the oldest settlers.

BIRTH at Uitenhage on Friday the 17th inst, Mrs. Frederick James MILLS of a son.
DIED at Woodlands on the 19th inst, in his 84th year, John FILMER Sen; he was an affectionate husband and father, a sincere Christian and a member of the Wesleyan Church for 64 years, he leaves a widow and large family to deplore his loss. He came to the Colony in 1820 with the Salem Party. His end, like his Life, was peaceful.
