Mrs. COLVILL returns her sincere thanks to those kind Christian friends who showed such great respect and sympathy for the sufferings of her dear son, Elisha EVANS, as also for their kind attention in following his remains to their last resting place. He was called at very short notice, in the bloom of life, to meet his God. Peace to his soul!

THE LATE MR. WOOLDRIDGE

Peddie, 3rd April 1865 - The mortal remains of the late Mr. James Warwick WOOLDRIDGE, Civil Commissioner's Clerk, were removed from the residence of Mrs. TAINTON Senr on Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, and conveyed to their last resting place, close to that of the late Mr. TAINTON Senr, in the cemetery of Peddie – followed by the Civil Commissioner and Mr. R.G. TAINTON as chief mourners (personal friends of the deceased), by the entire inhabitants of the village, several farmers, Mr. Sub-Inspector SURMON, and a number of his force. The funeral service was conducted by the Rev Jno. ALDRED, who together with the Rev Mr. CHAPMAN and Dr. MACK, medical attendant of the deceased, preceded the remains.
Deceased came to this colony with his father, who was in command of the British German Legion when they first arrived, and who, together with his mother and brothers, have left the colony. Mr. WOOLDRIDGE remained some short time in Capetown. In 1857 he entered the Civil Department, first as a temporary clerk at Government House, from whence he was appointed Clerk to the Magistrate of Peddie, and promoted to Civil Commissioner's Clerk in 1860, and on the 22nd December last he was appointed a Justice of the Peace for the district. Mr. WOOLDRIDGE likewise held the appointment of Secretary to the Divisional Council, which said appointment he has held since its first formation until the time of his demise, and in all his various offices gave general satisfaction.
The premature death of this young but promising and ever active official will be much felt in the district and in society in general, as he always took a willing and lively part in whatever tended to promote the welfare of the district, nor was he ever behind hand with his mite of contribution on all occasions.
As an official he was generally respected. His loss in the office – which he quitted on or about the 8th February last – will be much felt.

DIED at Queenstown, Cape of Good Hope, on the 30th March 1865, of Consumption after a long and painful illness, Mary Ann, beloved wife of Matthew HALE, leaving a disconsolate husband and two young children to mourn their irreparable loss.

DIED at Cradock on the 4th April 1865, of Croup, Herbert Thompson, youngest son of Peter K. KNIGHT; aged 1 year and 9 months.

DIED at Fort Peddie, March 30th 1865, James Warwick WOOLDRIDGE Esq JP, Clerk to the Civil Commissioner, and second son of Colonel WOOLDRIDGE, late B.G.L., of the County of Cornwall, England. His decease is deeply felt by a large circle of friends, as well as amongst the community of which he formed so useful and interesting a member.

Death of an Old Settler – The Uitenhage Times records the death of Mr. William WATSON on Tuesday last. He came to this country in the well-known ship Brilliant. His age was 65 years.

DIED at Spring Vale near Sidbury on Wednesday evening, the 14th June 1865, Joseph Edward WILMOT, Justice of the Peace, aged 76 years and 29 days. Deceased came to this colony with the Salem Party in 1820. His end was peace. He leaves three sons to mourn his death.

DIED at Kaal Hoek, May 27th, Sarah Elizabeth Ann CUTTER, aged 8 years and 11 months.

The funeral will move from Peach's Hotel at 3 o'clock tomorrow, the 24th instant. Friends of the deceased are respectfully invited to attend.
