ABSCONDED from Wynberg on the 28th Nov last, Daniel, an Apprentice of the Undersigned, lately working as a Mason. He is about 5 feet 7 inches high, 35 years old, has a defect in one of his eyes, is a Malay, copper coloured, was dressed in a Red Cap and Duffle Jacket, he was formerly a Slave of Mr. MAYNIER, Capt.HARE and Benj. STONE. He is supposed to have hired himself as a Free Boy. Any person apprehending him or giving information where he is to be found will be rewarded. Persons employing him will be prosecuted.

DIED on Tuesday 20th December 1836, at Theopolis, the wife of the Rev. G. BARKER, Resident Missionary at that Institution. On the preceding evening Mrs. B retired to rest in perfect health, but was seized shortly afterwards by alarming illness, which terminated in premature labour and, before Medical Assistance could be procured, or Mr. B, who was in town, could reach his home, in the death of both child and mother. It is a tribute most justly due to the deceased to say that she was eminently suited to the station in which Providence had placed her; and that her death is felt as a severe calamity, not only by her bereaved partner and her numerous children, of whom eight survive her, but also by the inhabitants of the Village, to whom, by her active benevolence and affectionate sympathy, she had greatly endeared herself.

To the Editor: Sir, As the removal of the Frontier Farmers to a country of which they know comparatively nothing is daily increasing; and as I suppose the public will feel anxious to ascertain the number of persons who have already left, I send you the annexed list of names, on the correctness of which you may rely. Besides these many are daily making preparations to follow them. Although I grieve for my countrymen, still they have to thank themselves for whatever may befall them; they have had good advice from excellent men here, yet as others go, they must act equally foolish. One thing is certain – that to us the ways of Providence are obscure.

DIED at cape Town on Sunday the 12th instant, aged 34 years, Anna Maria, the wife of Captain WOLFE, 98th Regt, Commandant of Robben Island, deeply and sincerely regretted by all who had the pleasure of her acquaintance, and who thereby attained a knowledge of the many virtues and great kindness of heart that adorned her character. An affectionate and disconsolate husband and eight children are left to lament their severe loss.
