DEATH

BROOKE—On the 22nd May, at King William’s Town, of croop, Edmund Henry Brooke, second son and only surviving child of Henry C. Litchfield, C.E., aged five years and five months.

Mr. W. Taylor recently committed suicide in his bedroom, near Government Square, Johannesburg, by shooting himself with a revolver held so close to his right breast, that his shirt was burnt. He was found next morning lying against his bed quite dead. There appears to be no good cause for this rash act, unless it is a case of “cherchez la femme.” Mr. Taylor was a mechanical engineer, and had everything packed in his portmanteau, as he intended taking a holiday trip. About £60 in gold was found in his portmanteau.
