DEATH OF A “PILGRIM FATHER”
We announced in our Tuesday’s issue the death of Mr. Samuel T JAMES, one of the “Pilgrim Fathers” of 1820. The deceased was a resident of Graham’s Town, but had made a journey to Cradock, where his wife, a sister of Mr. COLLETT’s, was on a visit to her family connections. Mr. JAMES had been in a shattered state of health for some time, but nevertheless his death was quite unexpected. Amongst the Settlers of 1820 he stood high as a man of probity, industry and independence. He passed through life with unblemished reputation, and his memory will ever be regarded with affection by his family, and with respect by all who knew him. [Journal]

FRONTIER NEWS.
THEFTS. – On Monday night, the 7th instant, three oxen were stolen from Mr. James ATTWELL’s wagon near King William’s Town. The owner of the wagon kept awake the whole night in order to be on the alert and prevent any stealing, but so cleverly was the theft executed, that he knew nothing whatever of the loss until the morning. This was committed by Kafirs, and on the Wednesday following the hides of the stolen animals, identified by the owner’s brandmark, were sold to the traders in King William’s Town. One or two other thefts took place on the same night, and it is said that scarcely a day passes without receiving a report of the repetition of such exploits. - Journal.
